Embossing utilizes a metal
die and counter along with heat and pressure to reshape the surface
of paper.
The result is a three-dimensional design which creates a sense of
depth and contrast. The process can be used with foil, ink, or "blind,"
which is embossing without foil or ink.
Blind embossing is elegant
in its simplicity.
Emboss styles include
single, multi-level, beveled, and sculptured.
Debossing (lowering) an
image in the surface of the paper is another method used to achieve
attractive visual effects.
